FAI Heritage Around Us
FAI (Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano) is a national non-profit foundation established in 1975 to protect and enhance Italy’s artistic and natural heritage. Inspired by the British National Trust, FAI restores historic properties and landscapes of immense value to ensure their preservation and public accessibility. Villa Amore is proud to actively support this mission as a Corporate Golden Donor.
The protection of landscape and historical memory finds some of its highest expressions in Liguria. The villa is strategically located near several sites protected by the Foundation: bourgeois residences, monastic complexes, and historic workshops that offer a curated and conservative perspective on regional heritage.
Casa Carbone, Lavagna
(Distance: 15 minutes)
A late 19th-century residence representing an intact example of the bourgeois lifestyle of the era. The interiors, featuring original frescoes and furnishings, retain the warmth of a lived-in home, surrounded by a Mediterranean garden that serves as a silent oasis within the urban fabric.
San Fruttuoso Abbey, Camogli
(Distance: 30 minutes – via sea or trail)
Tucked into a small bay on the Portofino Promontory, this medieval abbey is a site of austere charm. A former residence and burial site for the Doria family, the structure engages in a direct dialogue with the sea, striking a perfect balance between architecture and nature.
Villa Rezzola, Lerici
(Distance: 60 minutes)
Overlooking the Gulf of Poets, the villa is celebrated for its monumental garden that slopes toward the sea. It fully represents the Anglo-Italian landscape culture that made the Eastern Riviera a destination of choice for international poets and travelers.
Antica Barberia Giacalone, Genoa
(Distance: 40 minutes)
In the heart of Genoa’s historic center, this small barber shop is a jewel of Art Deco and Liberty interior architecture. The mirrors and stained glass transport the visitor to the atmosphere of refined early 20th-century grooming, maintaining its original function to this day.
Casa e Collezione Laura, Ospedaletti
(Distance: 1 hour 50 minutes)
A sophisticated residence housing a rare collection of European furniture, Chinese porcelain, and fine art. The home is immersed in a lush garden dominating the coast of the Riviera dei Fiori.
