A bit of history: a layered identity

Zoagli’s history is defined by a quiet resilience and a mercantile vocation dating back to the pre-Roman Ligures Tigulli. During the Middle Ages, its loyalty to the Republic of Genoa shaped its defensive layout, evidenced today by the viceregal towers of Levante and Ponente. Despite the profound urban shifts following the railway construction and post-war rebuilding, the village has preserved its human scale and its character as a specialized productive center, far removed from the dynamics of mass tourism.

Architecture of the sea

The central square serves as an open-air salon, directly connected to the waterfront. Marked by an almost cinematic scale thanks to the arches of the railway viaduct, the square is the balance point between the residential center and the cliffs. Zoagli is one of the few European centers to keep the artisanal weaving of silk velvets and damasks alive. Historic workshops like Cordani and Gaggioli still operate on ancient looms, exporting textiles worldwide. Vertical hinterland

Beyond the Via Aurelia, a network of creuze—historic stone mule tracks—connects the hillside hamlets of Sant'Ambrogio and San Pietro di Rovereto. These paths offer a sharp perspective over the Gulf of Tigullio and reveal the rural dimension of the area, among ancient olive groves, dry-stone walls, and private gardens facing Portofino.
